NYR: Igor Shesterkin named starter; lineup up in the air as some players questionable
The New York Rangers will once again go with Igor Shesterkin in goal tonight. Surprisingly, the Penguins are going back to Tristan Jarry after he was shelled in the last game. That wasn’t all the new to come out of David Quinn’s presser though.
Igor Shesterkin starts again for the Rangers
David Quinn is riding his hot hand and putting to bed any notion that Igor Shesterkin’s durability is a question mark. This season his .924 SV% tied for fourth in the NHL and his 2.36 GAA is good for 7th. Remember; Igor Shesterkin is still considered a rookie this season and in that category his SV% is tops with his GAA good for second. Should he continue; he will have to be considered for the Calder Trophy.
As for tonight; he’s a lifetime 2-1-1 against the Penguins with a solid 2.72 GAA and .902 SV%. He stopped 41 shots in the Blueshirts 8-4 romp of Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
Rangers lineup not yet set
The Rangers could be feeling the after effects of their first round of the COVID vaccine or some players are dealing with the normal bumps and bruises late in a season. Both Ryan Lindgren and Ryan Strome were getting off-ice treatment this morning but are expected to play.
When Quinn was asked about the roster he noted the questions still remain. Expect lineups closer to puck drop.
