Quick Hits – Rangers vs Avalanche 2/11/17

Here is my Quick Hits recap of the Rangers 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche

  • 4th Line – On just about every NHL team, the fourth line grinds in the corners and provide some energy. On this NHL team, the fourth line provides those things and more. Center Oscar Lindberg picked up two assists, winger Jesper Fast picked up an assist, this line got the Rangers going in this one. The Blueshirts already have one of the best forward groups in the league; but if this line starts producing as well, they will be very dangerous down the home stretch.
  • Rick Nash – It has been an interesting season for the Rangers winger. He scored his 16th goal of the season in this one, but could easily have 25-30 already. He is constantly driving the net, looking to put the defenders in difficult situations, but the bounces just haven’t gone his way. After driving the net and being stopped, Nash stayed at the front of the net and tipped in a shot-pass from Derek Stepan for what turned out to be the game winner. Nash has had a very solid year so far, and if he keeps playing the way he is now, he may end up at the 25-30 goal mark anyways.

  • Kevin Klein – The Rangers and their fans have been waiting a long four months for a performance like this from Kevin Klein. Klein played well defensively, making five hits and had a takeaway. And while it was a very welcome sight to see him play well in his own zone, he scored the Rangers’ first two goals in this one. Just 2:26 into the first, after a faceoff win by Lindberg, Klein one-timed a shot that trickled through Calvin Pickard to give the Rangers the early lead. Then, just 2:50 into the third with the Rangers trailing by a goal, Klein took a pass from Jesper Fast and lasered one into the top corner to tie the game. Klein has had a rough go of it this year, but this kind of performance should help him get some of his confidence back in his game.
  • Ryan McDonagh – The Rangers captain continued his stellar play this season, picking up his 30th assist of the season. He is currently sitting at 32 points on the year, and is just 11 points shy of his career high of 43. He has been the bright spot on the Rangers blue line all year, and him picking up the points is definitely nice to see.
  • “Winning at MSG — it’s just the best feeling. That’s why you go to work every morning and try to improve your game.” – Henrik Lundqvist

  • Henrik Lundqvist – Henrik Lundqvist had a strong game in this one, picking up his 26th win of the season and the 400th of his stellar career. He let up two goals in the win, but he backstopped the Rangers in the third with 17 saves. He made the timely saves in the second to keep the Rangers deficit at one, and was on top of the blue paint all game. It has been a bit of a rough stretch the last six weeks or so, but Henrik seems to have found his game once again.
