Rangers break out in the third against the Coyotes for a big win
The Rangers looked off last night. For nearly half the game they looked disengaged and aimless. Any chance to generate a spark was met by a collapsing defense by the Coyotes, snuffing out any flame. That was until Chris Kreider finally broke through in spectacular fashion midway in the 2nd period and the fireworks began.

The goal was vintage Kreider using his blazing speed to get a step on his defender and then his strength to redirect a gorgeous Mats Zuccarello feed. It swung the momentum as the Rangers would tally three times in the third period to seal the victory. Oh…and Henrik Lundqvist? He was pretty good too after a bad goal in the first period.

Kevin Hayes would break the tie after a bad play from Coyotes Goalie, Mike Smith. From behind the net, he used his size, reach and hands to roof one into a vacant net. That was followed by a pinball shot goal by Keith Yandle on the PP. Yes, the Rangers indeed scored a PP goal last night and it was a big one for the former Coyote.

Finally, one more Ranger got off the goal-less snide…even if he didn’t. Yes, that sentence perfectly describes Rick Nash‘s first goal of the year. With an empty net, Nash was in on a breakaway when he was pulled from behind…that’s an automatic goal. So Rick Nash has one goal on the year and has never actually hit the back of the net with an ounce of vulcanized rubber.

Nash joked with reporters afterwards saying,”The way things were going that felt pretty standard.” For the big winger, his smile showed just how much relief it was. The win also puts the Rangers on top of the Metropolitan Division. It is likely a spot the Rangers will challenge for all season.
