Rangers Fall, Lose Ground to Flyers
It got fugly (f, for Flyers) in that beautiful sort of way early on Saturday afternoon. Scott Hartnell thought it sporting to offer the Rangers two powerplays inside the first five minutes of action.
And what did our heroes do with the opportunities? They set the tone, crashed the net..and got stonewalled by Steve Mason who fought through screens, snipes and rebounds to keep the game scoreless. If it weren’t for him, Callahan might’ve had two powerplay goals.
Alas, after Vincent Lecavalier was awarded the tally on an awkward and flukey play gone awry for the Rangers, Sean Couturier did this:

Though Chris Kreider and Derrick Brassard would tie the game inside of 12 minutes in the middle frame, Henrik Lundqvist allowed his second bad goal of the game just 101 seconds later, to Wayne Simmonds.
Thus was the crux of the Rangers’ 61st game of the season, despite quality offensive efforts, brain farts at the other end conspired to thwart any resilience they had against defeat.
With this loss and wins by Washington, New Jersey and Columbus, their hold on a playoff spot and trade negotiation strength grows more and more tenuous. If our boys in blue lose in regulation to Boston on
Sunday, it’s entirely possible we could be on the outside looking in by the time we meet Toronto on Wednesday, after the trade deadline.
But you know what they say, winning cures everything.
