Rangers, Flyers Set For Pivotal Game Five Battle

Two nights ago, the New York Rangers had a great opportunity to go up 3-1 in the series and really take a stranglehold over the Philadelphia Flyers in their first round battle.
However, that wasn’t the case, and a redirection from a wide open Jakub Voracek in front sent the Rangers packing with the series knotted at two games a piece.
This has been a recurring problem in recent history. The Rangers have not won a playoff series in less than seven games since 2008 (first round). Every other series victory since then has been in seven long games.
The Blueshirts come home today to what surely will be a rocking MSG crowd early in the afternoon, as they push for a 3-2 series lead and the chance to eliminate the Flyers on Tuesday evening at Wells Fargo Center.
Injury News
Steve Mason looked great in his return from his injury, as he stopped 37 of 38 shots on goal and was a key factor in his team’s win on Friday night.
Chris Kreider practiced solo before the team’s optional skate today and to the delight of Ranger fans, he was holding his stick with both hands, which is a good sign to see and it means his road to recovery is going smoothly. There is still no timetable for his return, and it is doubtful that he returns for tomorrow’s game five.
Special Teams Remain Key
The Rangers power-play, which was great and consistent throughout the length of the regular season, has faltered severely in their opening round series.
Through the first four games, the NYR are a measly 3-for-21 with the man advantage. A stat that they will need to seriously increase if they want to cement their chances of moving on to the second round to face either the Pittsburgh Penguins or Columbus Blue Jackets.
FullTilt Forecast
The Flyers will not be able to handle the afternoon atmosphere of The Garden. Rick Nash will provide some offense and Henrik Lundqvist will shut the door. Rangers win by a score of 4-2.
