Rangers pluck Ducks and head to LA to face the Kings (NYR 4 v. ANA 1)
The New York Rangers are sight to behold these days as they continue to play inspired hockey. Last night, against one of the NHL’s best, they took it them and came away with a 4-1 win.
RANGERS 4 vs. DUCKS 1
Henrik Lundqvist was the game’s first star, stopping 24 of 25 Anaheim shots. After the game he said, “I think it’s good for our confidence to know that we can play a really strong game against the best teams in the league.”
Rick Nash who was the game’s second star by tallying his 25th of the season talked about the challenge this game and road trip presented.”We talked about challenging ourselves and using this game as a measuring stick of where we’re at. So it’s a huge win for us. We’re playing our style and we’re not hurting ourselves.”
Derick Brassard, who has been another key Ranger during this stretch where they have won 11 of their last 12 (first time since 1993-94) opened the scoring. It came on a delayed penalty when he fired a shot from the top of the circle that beat Ilya Bryzgalov.
After Nash made it 2-0, the Ducks would cut the lead in half mid-way through the 3rd period on the PP. Mats Zuccarello would then score an unassisted beauty and Dominic Moore would close it out with an empty netter.
Alain Vigneault has this team humming. He was very complimentary of his team’s efforts as well. “Obviously we were ready tonight, we came out moving the puck real well and getting good looks and we will turn the page on this one and focus on tomorrow night.”
That next one is against the L.A. Kings and will certainly hold a little more than just two points in the standings.
