Rangers power play surges early as Rangers romp Sabres (NYR 6 vs. BUF 1)
Derick Brassard got the party started at 8:46 of the first period and before you knew it, the Rangers scored 3 more times to rout the Sabres. Chris Kreider and Rick Nash would score after Brassard all on the PP, capped by a Dan Boyle even strength tally. 4-0 after 1 and the Blueshirts were on cruise control the rest of the way.

Alain Vigneault was all smiles after his team got their special teams off on the right foot to start 2015. “We got early power plays and we were able to make them pay for it” the coach told reporters. “Then after that we did what we had to do in order to win the game.”
Carl Hagelin and Jesper Fast would close out the scoring for NY but it really was just like adding cherries on top. Now NY is faced with a 3 game Western road swing that Henrik Lundqvist knows will be a challenge.
“It’s going to be a great test for us. Three really good teams, and obviously some memories out there.” Lundqvist was referring to the L.A. Kings who will be on the docket this time around. “We’ll see how it feels walking into [the Staples Center]. I think we’re excited to go.”
The Rangers will start Wednesday in Anaheim followed by the Kings on Thursday. The trip will end against San Jose on Saturday. NY will need a solid road trip because when they return a huge tilt with the Islanders looms at the garden on Tuesday 1/13/15.

Lundqvist says he almost felt bad for Sabres in penalty-PPG-penalty on goal-PPG-penalty on goal-PPG sequence. Somewhat. It was unique.
