Rangers Roundup: Practice lines; Gallant won’t name starter; and Will Cuylle named Spitfires captain
The New York Rangers head into tonight’s matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs with some revised lines and lineup questions.
According to their setup at practice, the second line will have Barclay Goodrow moved up to RW to replace the injured Kaapo Kakko. Filip Chytil will remain in Ryan Strome’s spot as well.
The third line has Kevin Rooney in the middle of Sammy Blais and Julien Gauthier. Meanwhile, Barron is rotating on a fourth line with Greg McKegg. So it’s not definitive if he will play.

Head coach Gerard Gallant was also asked who the starter would be tonight, to which he replied “you’ll find out at 7 PM.”
The likely choice would be Igor Shesterkin who has been sharp in both his starts this season. He hung in for an OTL against Dallas, and was stellar against Montreal. On the season he is 1-0-1 with a 1.98 GAA and .931 SV%.
On the other hand, Alexandar Georgiev has good career numbers versus the Leafs at 3-2, with a .929 SV% and 3.20 GAA. This season, he is 0-1, losing his lone appearance to the Capitals by a 5-1 margin.
Will Cuylle named captain of the Spitfires
The Windsor Spitfires names Rangers prospect Will Cuylle captain of the team this past Friday.
“It is an honour to be named the captain of such a historic franchise,” Cuylle said via the OHL website. “I am excited for the upcoming season.”
Former Rangers and current Head Coach Marc Savard noted that for him, Cuylle was the obvious choice.
“Cuylle has been here for two seasons now and is an obvious choice for us and among his peers,” Savard said. “We think he will do a great job and lead this team going forward.”
Congrats on the honor.
