Rangers squeak by Hurricanes in a shootout, face Ducks tonight (NYR 3 v. CAR 2 SO)
Good News! A member of the top six scored a goal last night. Bad News! It was recently promoted JT Miller from the third line. If the Rangers are going to break out of this offensive slump, the likes of Rick Nash, Derek Stepan and other top liners need to wake up.
For JT Miller, he was “happy we got two points” as the Rangers face one of the league’s best in the Ducks tonight at the Garden.

In other good news, Jesper Fast scored a gorgeous goal on a feed from Kevin Hayes that ranks up with the latter’s goal versus the Islanders. Jesper Fast was modest when speaking to John Giannone during intermission saying he was “just trying to go far side.”
The Hurricanes got on the board early in the game on a slap shot that snuck through the legs from the area outside the “Kill Zone”. Talbot admitted he wasn’t happy putting the team behind the eight ball bit was pleased with the final results.

In the second period, the Rangers who had only managed 2 shots from within the Kill Zone generated 5. The result was 2 goals and a lead after 2 periods. However, the Rangers managed just 3 more for the remainder of the game and Carolina turned it on.
Carolina penetrated the box and got 8 Kill Zone shots in the third period. That led to a penalty and a PP Goal by Ryan Murphy to tie the game. The tally came from outside on the point with heavy traffic in front of Talbot.
The Rangers would regroup and Mats Zuccarello won it in the shootout. NY’s Hobbit was brutally honest afterwards in his assessment of the team’s game.
