“To come up with that type of performance is to say the least – disappointing would be the understatement of the week.” Those were words come from the man who has to pick up the pieces and put if all back together, Alain Vigneault.

Oilers 3 vs. Rangers 1

The game was flat out ugly. Henrik Lundqvist who was outstanding in the contest was the only reason it wasn’t a 6-1 loss. “It felt like we were always a step behind,” the King said – and they were.

To a man they Rangers called out their own effort. Marc Staal who had a rough night said it best “it’s a wake up call.” Now the question is who will answer.

The Rangers were outclassed in every facet of the game and paid the price. Will the re-insetion of John Moore on Tuesday against the Penguins settle the defense? Who comes out – Conor Allen or Michael Kostka.

Plenty of Blueshirts need to elevate their games. We know it and they know. A closed door meeting was held after the contest, was it held by the coaches or the players? Does it really matter? What does, is taking the appropriate steps to fix what is fixable.

It starts by getting healthy and the Rangers are getting there. When Dan Boyle returns, NY will have its full compliment of players. The next step is cleaning up defensive zone coverage and going from there.

Hockey is simple, you keep the puck out first, then you put the puck in on the other end.
