Brandon Scanlin recalled by Rangers after Ryan Lindgren injury
Brandon Scanlin was recalled by the New York Rangers from their American Hockey League affiliate in Hartford on Monday. The move comes one day after Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren sustained a lower-body injury in a 5-2 win against the New York Islanders.
Lindgren will miss a “few weeks” with the injury, though he’s expected to make a full recovery. The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin in four weeks.
The Rangers had a day off Monday, so no one was available for comment about Lindgren’s status. Lindgren was injured in a battle with J.G. Pageau behind the Rangers net late in the second period Sunday, helped from the ice and didn’t return.
Coach Peter Laviolette said postgame that Lindgren was being evaluated and had no further comment. But the injury appeared to be to the 26-year-old’s left leg or knee, and seemed serious.

Rangers recall Brandon Scanlin from Hartford Wolf Pack
Scanlin has 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) in 57 games with Hartford this season. It is his second full professional season, though he turned pro after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2021-22. He has never played an NHL game.
The 24-year-old, who leads Hartford defensemen in goals, stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 218 pounds. He played three seasons at University of Nebraska-Omaha and had 31 points (six goals, 25 assists) in 38 games in 2021-22.
Scanlin likely will be the extra defenseman beginning Tuesday when the Rangers host the Winnipeg Jets. Chad Ruhwedel is expected to slot into the lineup and make his Rangers debut. Ruhwedel was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins ahead of the trade deadline but has been a healthy scratch in six straight games.
The Rangers are already without captain Jacob Trouba on the blue line. He’s missed six games with a lower-body injury and is expected to be out another week or two at least. The Rangers are 5-1-0 since his injury. Zac Jones drew into the lineup and Braden Schneider moved up from the third pairing to skate in Trouba’s spot alongside K’Andre Miller.
