Now that the New York Rangers are in offseason mode, after being eliminated by the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, it’s a good time to take an early look at what next season’s roster will look like for their top developmental team, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Firs things first, Chris Drury and Ryan Martin must decide on who will coach the Wolf Pack in 2024-25. Steve Smith finished the season as interim coach after Kris Knoblauch was hired by the Edmonton Oilers in November, and has since led them to the Stanley Cup Final.

Outside of the coach, this will be another important summer to retool the Wolf Pack for another potential Calder Cup run, while developing some of the organization’s top prospects, as well. It’d appear the majority of the roster is intact for next season, but a steady veteran on defense and more veteran scoring punch up front are needed. Hartford will be trying to extend its AHL playoff streak to three straight seasons.

Expectation is Hartford will lose a couple of veterans, as Tyler Pitlick and Nicolas Petan are unrestricted free agents. On the back end, Nikolas Brouillard is also a UFA, with the addition of Mac Hollowel, who has impressed and is under the number of games to become a veteran.

The Wolf Pack’s roster will further be in flux depending on the Rangers game plan this summer. After a disappointing ending against the Panthers, questions remain for the big club and could trickle down to affect the Wolf Pack roster if trades involving prospects are made this summer. Also, the Wolf Pack have a couple of candidates that will get a lengthy look in Rangers training camp when September arrives.

Brennan Othmann had an impactful rookie season in the AHL, producing a 49 point campaign in the regular season and finishing second on the Wolf Pack with 21 goals. Add in his impressive training camp last year, and the 2021 first-round pick has a legitimate shot to make New York’s roster.

Brett Berard is another rookie pro who impressed this season, contributing 48 points in the regular season and leading Hartford with 25 goals. Berard will also get a close look in camp as he continues to refine his game that was pretty dynamic in the AHL.

Adam Sykora might also get a look for a bottom-six role, as could veterans Jake Leschyshyn, Riley Nash and Anton Blidh.

All that said, let’s examine the contract statuses of the players who finished the 2023-24 season the Wolf Pack roster.
