Henrik Lundqvist admits leaving the Rangers is still very difficult

Late Sunday night, we published the English version to Johan Rylander of the Göteborgs-Posten exclusive interview with Henrik Lundqvist. The early access granted by GP allowed me to work on the translations* so many of you enjoyed. More importantly, I was able to bring you an accurate representation as soon as it was released in Sweden.

*Google translate was not used.

Henrik Lundqvist will come back to the New York Rangers

We all know about the biggest revelations in the article as it was also covered in places like the NY POST. “I’ll be a part of the Rangers for the rest of my life, in one way or another,” Lundqvist began. “Both I and the Rangers have been clear about that. That’s how it will be.”

Johan followed up for clarity if that meant a job with the Rangers when his career was done. “Yes, it will be the role they want it to be,” Hank responded. “I don’t know if the role will be small or if there will be something more.” Lundqvist added. “It is further ahead. It’s all about timing. It’s just not now.”

However, only Forever Blueshirts and The Daily Goal Horn had the entire interview because GP is a subscription based service. That’s why we were able to bring you his thoughts on COVID-19, the U.S. Elections, and more.

Now here’s some tidbits from the interview that I saved for you.

Old Habits: Henrik Lundqvist still takes the wrong exit

After playing with the Rangers for 15 years, you’d have to imagine old habits are hard to break. Since Hank and his family still live in NY and the temporary training facility is in NJ, Johan asked if he ever takes the wrong exit.

“Yes! I actually missed one of the first few weeks,” Henrik laughed. “I was wandering in my my mind then I realized I was on my way to Rangers’ training rink, and not to New Jersey. But it’s only happened once so far!”

Henrik still struggling with leaving the Rangers

The topic of his new Washington Capitals gear came up and the reactions on social media. “Sometimes I check a few reactions, I do,” Henrik admitted. “But I do not know what the feedback has been this time.”

Johan then informed him that overall it is positive but New York Rangers fans are struggling with it. “Yes, it still is like that,” Lundqvist said amusingly. “I sometimes find myself feeling the same way.”

“I’ve been through it so much in my head that I’m ready for the next chapter,” Henrik admitted. “I’ve also been working on it for quite some time that it’s coming to end here in New York.”

“For many fans, they have become accustomed to me being here for 15 years and being part of the organization and suddenly I’m not.” His sentiments are felt by so many fans in New York.

“It takes time to get used to it, maybe…”
