Jeff Gorton releases first statement since Rangers dismissal
Former New York Rangers General Manager, Jeff Gorton has released his first statement since his dismissal last week. “Working for the New York Rangers has been an opportunity and a privilege of a lifetime,” he wrote. “Personally, I want to thank the Ranger fans their passion and support.”
Jeff Gorton releases statement
Gorton who took over as GM back in 2015, has done a magnificent job of restocking an empty cupboard with talent and prospects. “I am incredibly proud of everything we have accomplished since joining the organization 14 years ago,” he noted. “Since announcing the rebuild in 2018, I believe we have developed a very talented team that fans can and will be proud of for years to come.”
The now dismissed GM finished off his statement by saying, “I look forward to my next opportunity.”
That opportunity could be just around the corner too. Look to places like Buffalo that may decide to bring in Gorton as team president.
Gorton appears to contradict James Dolan
James Dolan dismissed both John Davidson and Jeff Gorton in what he said was a needed “culture change.” The owner of both the Rangers and Knicks felt that the team indeed did have talent but not the right pieces to win. That was the crux (at least publicly) of why he made the decision.
Looking closer into Gorton’s statement, he seems to be answering back to the criticism. “Since announcing the rebuild in 2018, I believe we have developed a very talented team that fans can and will be proud of for years to come,” sounds like his going away response.
We wish Jeff Gorton the best of luck going forward.
