Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist heads IIHF Hall of Fame class of 2025
Chalk up another accolade in the career of New York Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist.
The Rangers’ all-time winningest goalie heads the Class of 2025 for the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hall of Fame. The announcement was made Friday, and the induction will take place, fittingly for the Sweden-born Lundqvist, in Stockholm on May 25.
Lundqvist is joined in the class by three other former NHL players: Zdeno Chara (Slovakia), Frans Nielsen (Denmark) and David Vyborny (Czechia). Two women’s players — Vicky Sunohara (Canada) and Kim Martin-Hasson (Sweden) — are also being inducted, as is Kai Hintarinta from Finland in the builder’s category.
The IIHF recognizes contributions to international hockey. Lundqvist, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023, is a hero in Sweden for all of his success on the international stage representing the Tre Kronor.
Most notably, Lundqvist was brilliant leading Sweden to the gold medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics. He was 5-1 with a 2.33 goals-against average as a 23-year-old in those Winter Games. He stood tall in a 3-2 win against rival Finland in the gold medal game.
Lundqvist also represented Sweden in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and 2014 Sochi Olympics, posting a sub 2.00 GAA each time. He led Sweden to a silver medal in 2014, losing the gold medal game 3-0 to Canada.
He played in the 2001 and 2002 World Junior Championships and 2016 World Cup of Hockey, and led Sweden to a gold medal at the World Championship in 2017 and a silver at the 2004 World Championship.

Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist adds another honor to distinguished career
Lundqvist is the winningest European-born goalie in NHL history, and is sixth all-time, with 459 victories, each with the Rangers, the only team he suited up for over 15 seasons. He posted a career. 2.43 GAA, .918 save percentage and 64 shutouts in 887 NHL games. He won the Vezina Trophy as top NHL goalie in 2011-12.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Lundqvist was 61-67 with a 2.30 GAA and .921 save percentage. Lundqvist is tied with Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy for most Game 7 playoff wins all-time (six) and led the Rangers to the Eastern Conference Final three times and the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, when they lost to the Los Angeles Kings in five games.
The Rangers officially retired Lundqvist’s No. 30 jersey in a ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 28, 2022.
Lundqvist is currently a hockey analyst for select Rangers games on MSG Network and for TNT’s NHL coverage. He also co-hosts the Club 30 podcast.
Chara and Nielsen each have ties to the Rangers’ biggest rival, the Islanders. Chara was a third-round pick by the Islanders in 1996 and played the first 272 games of his career with them. The towering defenseman then played the final 72 of his 1,680 NHL games with the Islanders in 2021-22.
Nielsen, a center best known for his prowess in the shootout, played 606 of his 925 NHL games with the Islanders from 2006-16.
