New York Rangers NCAA prospect report: Gabe Perreault extends point streak to 8 games
Gabe Perreault, the New York Rangers first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, continued to roll in his sophomore season at Boston College by recording three more points this past weekend. He had three assists in a weekend sweep against Maine, giving him a team-high 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in eight games. That is tied for seventh most in the NCAA.
Friday night, with the Eagles trailing 2-0 in the third period and on the power play, Perreault won a race to a loose puck and found Ryan Leonard on the far side of the net. Leonard passed the puck back across to an open Andre Gasseau in front for the goal.
With the game tied at 2-2 and under two minutes to play, Perreault worked his magic to move a loose puck over to James Hagens. The freshman sensation then skated into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1 break with Leonard, who broke the tie, scoring the game winner with 1:33 remaining to complete the comeback for the No. 2 ranked team in the nation.
Perreault finished the 3-2 win with two assists, four shots on goal, one face-off win, and an even rating. Teammate Drew Fortescue did not land on the score sheet, and was plus-1. The two Hockey East programs met again on Sunday afternoon, when BC goalie Jacob Fowler earned his third shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory. Fortescue had an even rating, and again did not have a point.
In the second period Saturday, Perreault fired a pass from the defensive zone hashmarks to an open Leonard by the Eagles bench. Leonard did the rest, skating into the slot and ripping a shot over the shoulder of goaltender Albin Boija.
This was Perreault’s eight assist of the season. He has recorded at least one point in each of Boston College’s first eight games. The Eagles continue Hockey East play when they travel to Storrs, Connecticut on Friday to take on the University of Connecticut Huskies at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.
