New York Rangers NCAA prospect report: Gabe Perreault leads Boston College to top of polls

Eight New York Rangers prospects were in NCAA action this past weekend as their respective collegiate teams looked to climb the polls and qualify for postseason play.
2023 first-round pick Gabe Perreault had two secondary assists Friday night for Boston College as the Eagles shut out Hockey East rival Providence College 3-0. Perreault’s assists came on the first two goals of the game for BC. He finished with four shots on goal, a plus-1 rating and won three face-offs. Defenseman and fellow Rangers 2023 draftee Drew Fortescue had a plus-2 rating with one blocked shot for BC.
Boston College completed the weekend series sweep over the Friars with a 4-1 victory Saturday. Perreault recorded his ninth multi-point game of the season with a goal and assist. The 19-year-old opened the scoring when he squeezed a shot just inside the right post at 7:06 of the first period at even strength for his eighth goal of the season.
With Boston College up 3-1 in the third period, Perreault earned his second point of the game by setting up Teddy Stiga for an even-strength goal at 14:03. His 28 points lead the team, and his 13 assists in conference play are tops in Hockey East.
Earlier this week, Perreault was named a nominee for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award as the top men’s NCAA hockey player.
Fortescue had one shot on goal and two blocked shots with a plus-1 rating Saturday. With the weekend sweep, Boston college moved into first place in the US College Hockey Online Men’s Division I Poll and PairWise Rankings. The team has an overall record of 16-4-1 with the Battle of Commonwealth Avenue against Boston University upcoming.

Rangers prospect Noah Laba records first NCAA hat trick

Center Noah Laba recorded his first NCAA hat trick when the Colorado College Tigers won 7-2 against Minnesota-Duluth on Friday. The junior has had an up-and-down season after missing time due to injury, but on Friday night, Laba got his team on the scoreboard first by cashing in on a rebound for an even-strength goal. In the second period with his team already up 4-0, Laba recorded his second goal of the game when he put one over Minnesota-Duluth’s goalie for a 5-0 lead. Laba got the hats flying in the third period when he scored after a Minnesota-Duluth turnover for the Tigers’ seventh goal of the game.
The alternate captain finished the night with three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating. He also won 10 of 14 face-offs. Laba did not have any shots on goal Saturday during a 4-1 loss and had an 11-12 face-off mark. Like Perreault, Laba is a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award.
Colorado College is 19th in the USCHO polls with a 11-10-1 record. The Tigers next travel to Mullett Arena for a series against Arizona State.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated Notre Dame 5-2 on Friday. Junior forward Brody Lamb had one shot on goal, one blocked shot, a minus-1 rating, and took a minor penalty for interference. Minnesota dropped a 4-3 decision Saturday to Notre Dame, as Lamb was held without a shot on goal. Lamb has gone five games without a goal, his longest streak of the season.
Minnesota dropped to 19-5-2 overall and fell one spot to fourth in the USCHO poll. The Golden Gophers have a top-10 matchup against Michigan State in their next series.
A pair of Rangers prospects faced off in NCHC play when Ty Henricks and the Western Michigan Broncos defeated EJ Emery and the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 3-2 in overtime on Friday. Henricks was credited with two shots on goal and a minus-1 rating; Emery had one shot on goal, three blocked shots, and a minus-1 rating.
Henricks scored his second goal of the season Saturday when Western Michigan skated to a 5-1 win over North Dakota. The freshman forward has been skating as the left wing on the Broncos’ fourth line. He finished the game with four shots on goal to improve his stat line to two goals, three assists, and five points in 20 games played this season.
Emery was on the right side of North Dakota’s top defensive pairing. The 2024 first-round pick by the Rangers was called for a cross-checking minor.
Western Michigan rose one spot to third in the USCHO poll with a record of 15-4-1. The Broncos host Miami of Ohio next weekend. North Dakota fell to 16th in the poll with a 12-10-1 record. The Fighting Hawks have a week off before visiting St. Cloud State on Jan. 31.
In ECAC action, Cornell Big Red defenseman Hank Kempf was scoreless in a 6-2 victory over Princeton on Friday, and was minus-1 during a 2-2 tie against Quinnipiac on Saturday. The senior was nominated for the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award for his significant contributions not only to his or her team but to the community at-large through leadership in volunteerism. Kempf was a finalist for the award last year.
Cornell has a 7-5-5 record and will host Harvard University at Lynah Rink on Jan. 24.
Harvard captain Zakary Karpa had an assist, one shot on goal and was plus-2 Friday when the Crimson defeated RPI 5-2. Karpa had the primary assist on Harvard’s first goal of the game. Karpa won only five of 17 face-offs.
Karpa had one shot on goal and won 13 of 20 face-offs Saturday during a 4-1 loss to Union. Harvard is 6-9-2 overall and will be on the road this weekend against Cornell and Colgate.
The Northern Michigan Wildcats won back-to-back games for the first time this season by sweeping a weekend set against Bemidji State, 4-1 and 3-1. Freshman defenseman Rasmus Larsson had one blocked shot and a plus-1 rating Friday, and three blocked shots on Saturday.
The Wildcats improved to 4-19-1 and will look to continue their winning streak against Michigan Tech.
