New York Rangers NCAA prospects report: Brody Lamb Earns First Star

The NCAA season continued this past weekend with eight New York Rangers prospects in action for their respective collegiate teams. One Rangers pick travelled to Ireland to participate in the Friendship Four tournament, while another skated on Madison Square Garden Ice for an ECAC showdown in The Frozen Apple.

After missing Minnesota’s game against Notre Dame, junior forward Brody Lamb was back in the lineup at right wing for the Golden Gophers on Friday. Lamb picked up the primary assist on the only goal for Minnesota in a 1-1 tie against Alaska Fairbanks. He was credited with four shots on goal.

He had an even bigger night Saturday against Alaska. With Minnesota trailing 2-1 at the start of the third period, Lamb took off on the rush during a penalty kill after forcing a turnover at the blue line, leading to a clutch shorthanded goal.

This was the first career shorthanded goal for Lamb, who earned first star of the game honors after he also picked up a secondary assist on the eventual game-winning goal. Lamb had a goal and assist for two points with three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating. He improved to a team-leading 10 goals with seven assists for 17 points in 15 games played.

Minnesota is 13-2-1 overall (6-0-0 conference record) after the weekend. Minnesota hosts Michigan on Friday in Big Ten conference play.

Rangers top pick EJ Emery has tough weekend with North Dakota

North Dakota was upset by Bemidji State in non-conference play Friday, losing by a score of 2-1. 2024 first-round pick EJ Emery had one shot on goal with three blocked shots and a minus-2 rating. The Fighting Hawks skated to a 3-3 tie in the second game of the series Saturday. Emery had one shot on goal and was again minus-2. The defenseman has a single assist in 15 games this season. With the results, North Dakota has a 7-7-1 overall record (2-2-0 NCHC) andwill look to rebound on the road against Miami on Friday.

Boston College defeated the last remaining undefeated Div. I team in Dartmouth College by a score of 5-3 on Friday. 2023 first-round pick Gabe Perreault had two assists with two shots on goal, and the Eagles rallied in the third period.

Perreault remains the leading scorer for Boston College with six goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 13 games played. Teammate Drew Fortescue had two shots on goal with one blocked shot and a plus-2 rating in the win. Boston College has a record of 10-3-0 overall (4-2-0 Hockey East) and will host the University of Connecticut Huskies on Wednesday.

No. 7 ranked Western Michigan skated to a weekend split against Michigan. The Broncos won he first game by a score of 4-1 before dropping the second game 2-1. Freshman Ty Henricks had one shot on goal with a plus-1 rating Friday, and was credited with an assist on the lone goal for Western Michigan on Saturday. Henricks has one goal and three assists for four points in 12 games played on the season. Western Michigan has a 9-2-1 record (5-0-1 NCHC) and will host defending national champion Denver on Dec. 6 and 7.

Madison Square Garden was the site of The Frozen Apple on Saturday night when Cornell University and Quinnipac University battled in ECAC action. Senior defenseman Hank Kempf was credited with an assist on the Big Red’s first goal in a 4-3 shootout win. Kempf was also charged with a minor penalty for interference in the second period. Kempf has three assists on the season. Cornell is now 4-2-3 overall (2-2-2 ECAC) and will host a White Out at Lynah Rink Dec. 6 against Colgate.

Over the holiday weekend, the Harvard University travelled to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the Friendship Four tournament. Captain Zakary Karpa was 8-for-14 on face-offs in the first game against Notre Dame. The senior center had one blocked shot, was minus-1, and had a minor penalty for tripping in the 5-2 loss. The Crimson defeated Merrimack College by a score of 4-2 in the Third-Place game. Karpa was 10-for-24 from the face-off dot with four blocked shots. He is scoreless so far through eight games played. Harvard has a 3-4-1 overall record (2-2-1 ECAC) and hosts Clarkson University on Friday.

The losses continued to mount for Northern Michigan University, as it dropped a pair of decisions to Augustana by matching scores of 4-1 Friday and Saturday. Freshman defenseman Rasmus Larsson had one shot on goal in the first game, and two shots on goal in the second game of the series. The native of Sweden is scoreless on the season in 13 games. The Wildcats are now 1-12-1 overall (0-7-1 CCHA). Ferris State comes to Berry Events Center Dec. 6 and 7.
