New York Rangers reward Adam Fox with seven year extension worth $66.5 million

The New York Rangers have seen enough of Adam Fox to know he may very well be one of the best defenseman in the game today. This season, the 23 year-old has 9 points in 9 games coming off a Norris Trophy winning campaign in 2020-21.

On Monday night, the team announced they have come to terms on a new extension worth $9.5 million annually against the cap for the next seven years.

“We are thrilled that we have agreed to terms with Adam on a contract extension and that he will continue to play for the team he grew up cheering for,” Drury said in a team release. “In just over two seasons, Adam has consistently shown why he is a cornerstone for our organization and one of the best players in the NHL. It has been a privilege for us, and our fans, to watch Adam showcase his ability on a nightly basis, and we are glad to have that opportunity for seven more years.”

So far, he has recorded 98 points in 134 NHL games to go along with a +46 rating and only 48 penalty minutes. The native of Jericho, LI shocked the hockey world by winning the Norris Trophy for best defenseman in his sophomore season. A feat only accomplished by one other rearguard, Hall of Famer Bobby Orr.

The accolades for Fox don’t stop there as he was also recognized as the winner of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award and was named the team’s MVP last season.

Fox is also expected to be named to Team USA for the Winter Olympics. Going back to last season, his 56 points are tops among all NHL defenseman.

“I feel like I’ve been a Ranger my whole life,” he said after signing. “There’s no place I’d rather be.”
