NHL Roundup: Isles advance, Scheifele calls out DoPS, Adam Fox for Norris, and more
Today’s NHL Roundup focuses on the Islanders beating the Bruins in six games. The Jets break up day had an interesting interview when Mark Scheifele called out the NHL DoPS for “shutting him down.” Rangers Adam Fox up for Norris, and more.
NHL Roundup: Isles advance
Brock Nelson scored a pair of goals off turnovers during a three-goal second period flurry, and the Islanders advanced to the NHL semifinals by beating the visiting Boston Bruins, 6-2, in Game 6 of their East Division second-round series in front of a raucous sellout crowd of 12,000 in Uniondale, N.Y.
The Islanders, who reached the conference finals for the first time in 27 years last summer, advance to a rematch against the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning eliminated the Islanders in six games in the Edmonton bubble in September.
Mark Scheifele “NHL DoPS shut me down”
Mark Scheifele didn’t hold back when asked about not being available due to suspension in the Jets elimination.
“Obviously it’s crushing that my season was ended by that and I wasn’t able to play in this series” he said. ” I thought I’d be shut down by Phillip Danault, but it was the Department of Player Safety that shut me down.”
Adam Fox up for Norris
What a season the 23 year-old from Jericho, LI had. Fox finished second overall in scoring for blue-liners with 47 points. His 42 assists were the most by an NHL defenseman and he was seventh for total ice time. Only Edmonton’s Tyson Barrie had more points playing on a team that boasts both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Winning the Norris Trophy would be special for Fox. If he were to be selected, he would be just the second defenseman to win it in his sophomore season with the great Bobby Orr being the only other one. However, if he were to win it, Fox would be the first ever to do so without his team qualifying for the playoffs.
