Filip Chytil suffers injury setback, helped off ice at Rangers morning skate: report
Filip Chytil’s return to the New York Rangers may have hit another roadblock Friday.
The 24-year-old center reportedly had to be helped off the ice during the Rangers morning skate ahead of their home game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Dan Rosen of NHL.com first reported the news on X, formerly Twitter.
Larry Brooks, among others, later cited sources saying Chytil suffered a setback directly related to the injury he’s been trying to come back from. That injury is suspected to be a concussion but the Rangers have never said anything other than Chytil sustained an upper-body injury on Nov. 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Chytil will miss his 38th straight game Friday after an on-ice collision with Hurricanes forward Jesper Fast. He had just returned to practice Thursday after spending the past month working out back home in Czechia. He has six assists in 10 games this season.
Following Chytil’s first practice Thursday, coach Peter Laviolette said there was “no timeframe” for his return to the lineup.
Also Friday, veteran center Nick Bonino cleared waivers. Bonino was assigned to Hartford of the American hockey League.
After a 1-2-1 road trip, the Rangers play back-to-back games Friday against the Golden Knights and Saturday at the Ottawa Senators and then have an eight-day break in their schedule. Center Mika Zibanejad said the Rangers should be “desperate” to find a way to win these next two games after a 3-5-2 slide.
