Rangers recall Keith Kinkaid with Alexandar Georgiev on COVID list

The New York Rangers have announced today that they have recalled goaltender Keith Kinkaid.

Yesterday, the team had to place both Alexandar Georgiev and Ryan Lindgren on the COVID-19 protocol list. They were just two of over 40 players that were added as the NHL re-opened to teams for testing.

Kinkaid, 32, won his only start during his last call up. In the Rangers 3-2 win against the Coyotes, he surrendered two goals on 31 shots while posting a .935 SV%.

The veteran netminder has proven to be a valuable backup dating back to last season. When Shesterkin went down with injury midway through the 2020-21 campaign, Kinkaid stepped in and played well. He posted a 2.59 GAA with a SV% of .898. In his NHL career he’s 69-58-21 with a 2.92 GAA and a respectable .905 SV%.

Georgiev, 25, was playing his best hockey before the break and helped keep the Blueshirts afloat. In Shesterkin’s absence the Rangers went 4-3-1. Georgiev posted a 3-2-1record that boasted a .931 SV% and 2.00 GAA during that span. Kinkaid picked up the other win, with Adam Huska acting as the sacrificial lamb against the Colorado Avalanche for the other loss.
