Rangers Roundup: Adam Fox has preliminary extension talks; and out of market fans missing out on games
Adam Fox won the Norris Trophy last season, thanks to an amazing season. He was also helped by a strong push by the New York Rangers organization to make sure voters didn’t dismiss him because the team failed to make the playoffs.
The 23 year-old from Jericho, LI will be a RFA at the end of the season, and is due for a massive increase off his ELC.

Rangers and Adam Fox had preliminary talks
Pierre LeBrun went on TSN’s Insider Tradings and offered a brief update. “I’ve been told there’ve been very preliminary discussions, nothing serious in nature yet” he said. “The Rangers have spent a lot of their cap money. You think about Mika Zibanejad’s extension that starts next year at 8.5M, Panarin makes 11.6M, I think they overpaid for Barclay Goodrow. It’s not Adam Fox that’s going to pay the price for the New York Rangers cap issues moving forward.
What LeBrun is hinting at is Fox will get paid, but then when the time comes, the Rangers will be moving out bigger salaries. That’s why there’s a low chance Ryan Strome will remain, and in 2024 you can expect Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba to be moved. Both those players’ full no trade clauses become modified, requiring them to submit lists.
As for Fox, expect a deal for 8 years at around $9 million AAV.
Out of Market Fans missing games
Several fans who live outside of the New York area have reached out to me asking for help on how to watch Rangers games. Matches not covered by ESPN+ that are televised nationally have some blackout restrictions rules.
This was covered by Sean Shapiro of The Athletic recently:
NHL Network will also have 90 games this season. Those games are considered national for out-of-market viewers, which will lead to ESPN+ blackouts, but in-market viewers will still be able to watch the games on their local RSN (Regional Sports Network).
Those games will later be added to the ESPN+ archive after 24 hours.
Anyone who does not get NHL Network, won’t be able to watch that particular Rangers game. At the request of a few fans in that predicament, I reached out to my contacts at MSG to see if there was any alternatives. If I hear anything that helps, I will pass it along.
