Rangers Roundup: Chytil still out; Panarin not happy with play; and more
The New York Rangers will have their last full practice prior to traveling to Columbus for Saturday night’s tilt against the Blue Jackets.
Filip Chytil is still a no-go and is unlikely to play in the contest.
Chytil, 21, has 3 points in 12 games this season. Barclay Goodrow should remain the third line center until he returns.
Artemi Panarin not satisfied with his play
The Rangers best offensive weapon is not entirely happy with his game.
Panarin, 30, has 11 points in 13 games so far this season. His two goals on the season is likely the most concerning for himself.
“Maybe I need to be more [of a] shooter,” Panarin said via the NY Post. “But that’s probably just not about shooting, maybe better position because usually I’m [starting] the attack, and then that’s why somebody should for me because I try to take a couple guys on me and make a pass. So if maybe I go closer to the net without the puck, maybe I score some.”
In Artemi’s first season on Broadway in 2019-20 he had 7 goals and 14 points through the first 13 games of the season. Last year, he notched 5 goals and 16 points in the same span.
Igor Shesterkin likes a lot of shots
Shesterkin, 25, is 6-2-2 with a remarkable .931 SV% and a 2.37 GAA. His SV% ranks 7th among net minders that have played at least 5 games this season.
In the Rangers last game against the Panthers, he stopped 42 of 45 shots for his third stolen victory of the season per Clear Sight Analytics run by MSG Analyst, Steve Valiquette.
When asked if he preferred the large number of shots, he replied: “Yeah, Why not? I think it’s harder when you only have 18 shots in a game.”
With the Rangers defense, that’s usually the case by the end of the first period.
