Classical Rangers
The New York Rangers continue to put out some fun and engaging content for their fans on social media. It’s a long weekend, and the team will get back to work on contracts and more tomorrow. Enjoy the video below, set to classical music.
Brendan Lemieux update
Brendan Lemieux is enjoying his summer as he recently posted videos on his Instagram Stories riding jeeps on the beach. After having spoken to several people over the last two weeks including beat reporter, Vince Mercogliano and Lyle Richardson of The Hockey News, Lemieux seems like a lock to be re-signed.
On a recent podcast interview, Lemieux said he was going to be back in NY to train for next season soon. “I love Rangers fans…playing for the Blueshirts, I love the blue seats and the blue collar fans which is obvious with the way I play,” he said on Tony DeAngelo’s podcast. “I love playing at Madison Square Garden. There’s no better city to live in and there’s no better place in the world.”
Expect the Rangers to sign him to a 2 or 3 year bridge deal for around $2 million AAV per season.
Remembering Alexander Karpovtsev and Lokomotiv
Today marks the 9th Anniversary of the Lokomotiv plane crash that claimed the lives of almost everyone on board. 1994 Stanley Cup champion, Alexander Karpovtsev was one of those souls. He was just 41 years-old and serving as the team’s assistant coach at the time.
“The New York Rangers organization is greatly saddened after learning of today’s tragedy,” Glen Sather said in a statement released by the team. “Words cannot begin to express the magnitude of devastation for such unimaginable loss.”
Karpovtsev was not the only Ranger to pass in the crash. Karel Rachunek who played two seasons on Broadway and Jan Marek a former draft pick were also victims of the tragedy. RIP
“We were all sickened to see the loss of life in that tragedy when the plane went down, but he was a wonderful friend and family guy and a huge component of this team,” former Rangers goalie Mike Richter said. “There was only one Potsie. He had a great personality and just was who he was.”
