Legendary New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will have his number 30 jersey raised to the iconic ceiling of Madison Square Garden on January 28th.
“There’s no place like it,” Lundqvist said. “Can’t tell you enough how much I look forward to be back in the place that has meant so much to me in my life. See you at the Garden January 28th!”

Henrik Lundqvist ceremony in Sweden
Lundqvist, 39, announced his retirement in August. He sat out last season after undergoing open-heart surgery in January 2020. He opted to make this announcement in Sweden.
At the end of August, Henrik Lundqvist announced that he was ending his career. Fittingly enough in Gothenburg and Scandinavium, it was still there that an exciting hockey trip really took off 20 years ago,” the team said in a statement. “It is easy to forget that Henrik Lundqvist before 15 fantastic seasons in the New York Rangers not only broke through in Frölunda HC but also won two Swedish Championship golds – 2003 and 2005.”
Hanks’ twin brother Joel is a legend for Frölunda and the current captain. Both players are icons in Sweden which will make the night even more special.
On January 8, Frölunda pays tribute to HC Henrik Lundqvist for a fantastic career at Scandinavium. It will be a half-hour-long ceremony before the drop-off – Frölunda meets Djurgården – with nostalgic flashbacks, exciting guests, speeches, the occasional surprise and then Henrik Lundqvist himself on the ice, of course.
Frölunda
it should be a special night for hockey fans all over the world.
