Rangers Roundup: Off to Toronto, Lias Andersson staying in Sweden, and more news

The Rangers wrapped up their final practice before heading to the bubble in Toronto. As we reported before, all players from camp will be heading North with the exception of K’Andre Miller due to his ineligibility.

New York’s promising young prospect was the non-roster invite to camp that each team was allowed. Miller signed his ELC for the 2020-2021 season, thus making him unavailable to be included.

The head coach discussed how yesterday’s practice was the most intense scrimmage to date. His goal was to make sure they were ready for what’s to come next so he had them ratchet up the physicality.

Lias Andersson staying in Sweden

Disgruntled prospect, Lias Andersson has been loaned to HV71 in the SHL for next season. This will make it discernibly harder for the Rangers GM, Jeff Gorton to trade him in October. Few teams would be willing to give up anything of value for a player who may refuse to report to the team.

I would like to thank the Rangers for understanding my situation and my desire to play in HV71. I found my way back to the game I want to play at the end of last season and look forward to continue with HV71. During my years in HV71 and Jönköping, I have acquired many good memories and positive feelings that I will build on when we reunite at the end of July.

Mika Zibanejad says it’s all about the playoffs

Mika Zibanejad met with the press via Zoom yesterday and talked about the playoffs. “I’m looking forward to playing in the playoffs again,” the Rangers center said. “This is what you fight for. This is what you play for every season.”

The 27 year-old center has proven he’s a star during the regular season, and now has to show it in crunch time. In his limited playoff action he has 17 points in 28 games.
