Rangers Roundup: Panarin to start training for hockey’s return, NY sports loses icon, and more
Artemi Panarin is currently in Florida with his good buddy Sergei Bobrovsky but told the NY Post that he is going to head back to Connecticut soon. In an interview with Larry Brooks, he said that he bought some plastic ice and nets for his home to get to work.
On a more somber note, Anthony J. Causi has lost his battle with COVID-19 this weekend. The 48 year old iconic NY Sports photographer leaves behind a wife and 2 young kids. He was one of my favorite chroniclers of the Rangers and his art will be missed.
Panarin Discusses Pause
Artemi Panarin like the rest of us is doing his best to stay home and at the same time help anyone he can. He told the NY Post that he is even sending money home to his family in Russia so they don’t have to go to work and get what they need. As for hockey, when the time comes he will be ready as he is preparing to go back to his Connecticut home and start some training.
“I ordered a hockey net and plastic ice so I can add more to my workouts and be more prepared if we are able to start again…If they called us back right now, and that is not happening, but at this point, I think it would take me two weeks to get into good shape where I could play,” Panarin said. “If it’s two months from now, and I have that time to be working out on the plastic ice, maybe one week. That’s for me. It might not be the same for everyone.”

Anthony J Causi NY Sports Icon
Sports photographers are not as famous or well known as their counterparts who cover the team with their writings or on air analysis. However, it is their pictures that help drive the stories and convey the great moments of the game. Anthony J Causi was one of the best in the business and his photos were art to me. To others, he was so much more as Bruce Beck tearfully explained last night. For more, read Mike Vaccaro’s touching article on a kind and loving family man.
Rangers Retro
Apparently the Rangers are going retro this week. Looks like MSGN will air games against the Flyers from 1986.
