Another big week for new President and General Manager Chris Drury. The NHL Expansion and Entry Draft have passed and now the Rangers move towards free agency on Wednesday, 7/28.

The Blueshirts do have a number of RFA’s they need to qualify and the deadline is today at 5 PM ET.

Qualifying offers due for Rangers RFA’s

Currently, the Rangers have three key players on the roster that need Qualifying Offers, and seven more in the minors. It is fully expected that Igor Shesterkin, Filip Chytil, and Libor Hajek will receive their qualifiers. As for the minor league players, it’s likely some will be let go.

“Some of it has, some of it hasn’t (been decided),” Drury answered about qualifying his RFA’s. “It’s due Monday at 5, We’ll take a look at it and make a decision by the deadline Monday.”

Qualifying Offers per CapFriendly:

  • Chytil – $874,125
  • Hajek – $874,125
  • Shesterkin – $874,125

The Rangers may qualify from the minors; Adam Huska, Tim Gettinger, Patrick Newell, Gabriel Fontaine, and Brandon Crawley.

Ty Ronning, and Yegor Rykov may not be.

Update:

Barclay Goodrow on his style of play

Barclay Goodrow

Chris Drury said upon his acquisition that Goodrow was a player they targeted and wanted to get done. The 28 year-old is 6-2 and weighs in at 203 lbs playing in 331 career games for the Sharks and the Lightning.

Why did Drury want him so bad? Let Barclay Goodrow explain.

“I’m an in-your-face type of player. I play hard, I’m more of a straight line player and I like to be counted on in defensive situations, like the PK or shutting down a top line,” he said. “I like to stick up for my teammates whenever need be.”

“Just be a guy who can go up and down the lineup playing wing or center. Wherever the team needs me.”
