Rangers Roundup: Rick Tocchet interviewed with Chris Drury, Mark Messier sends “Guarantee” thank you, and more
The Rangers head coaching search can add Rick Tocchet as an officially interviewed candidate along with Gerard Gallant. Per a report from Craig Morgan:
Rick Tocchet interviewed for the New York Rangers vacant coaching position today.
Also hearing that he will interview for the Buffalo Sabres’ job on Thursday, and likely for the Columbus Blue Jackets’ job at some point this week.
Rangers coaching search continues
Chris Drury has now officially interviewed two candidates for the open head coaching position. It is very possible there have been some other calls but at this point we only have these reports. Gerard Gallant’s interview went extremely well per Pierre LeBrun and likely has the inside track.
I recently spoke with Gallant’s agent, Neil Glasberg who offered these insights:
When it comes to Chris Drury, Glasberg said that he has a tough job ahead. “The one thing I’ll say about Chris Drury is he deserves it and he works really hard. He’s paid his dues as an assistant GM.” Neil went on to say that these positions are too often filled on simple name recognition but that’s not the case here with Drury. If for any reason you weren’t confident about Drury before, you should be now. The Rangers are fortunate to have a guy like him ready to step in this role and lead the next phase of the team’s evolution.
As many teams, including the Rangers search for a new coach, Neil offered his insights on some of the candidates. At the top of his list is Gerard Gallant whom he feels blessed to represent. “He’s got game in him, and he’s a fantastic coach,” he exclaimed. “Gallant would be great in multiple organizations. He’s the best of the unemployed experienced coaches out there.”
Mark Messier sends out a Guaranteed Thank You
Yesterday, we celebrated the 27th Anniversary of Mark Messier’s Guarantee. Last night on his Instagram he posted a photo of the famous NY Post back page that read, “We’ll Win Tonight” and a message. “Thank you to every Ranger fan that supported us,” he wrote. And to Mike Richter for his brilliant performance to give us a chance in the 3rd.
