Rangers Roundup: Rickard Rakell an intriguing trade option, Schneider a funny guy, and more
Another name is starting to emerge as a potential trade target for the New York Rangers in Anaheim. Forward Rickard Rakell, set to become a pending UFA in July is rumored to available as the trade deadline (3/21) approaches.
Rakell, 28, is a right wing that is currently playing on the Ducks third line. With the emergence of Troy Terry, it has pushed the Swede down the depth chart and further away from his back-to-back 30 goal seasons in 2016/17 – 2017/18.
If the price is right, maybe the Rangers can see a little Swedish connection with Mika Zibanejad for the stretch run.
Rangers trade target Rickard Rakell
Rakell will turn 29 in May, and if the cost to acquire him is less than a first round pick, he is certainly worth entertaining. Of his 14 goals this season, 10 have come at even strength which would be a boon for the Blueshirts who have been struggling to score consistently 5 on 5.
According to TFP, the Rangers along with the Penguins, Lightning, Maple Leafs, and Bruins are linked to the winger.
Cap wise, the Rangers would have no issue taking on Rakell’s full cap hit of $3.789 million. This season he has registered 25 points 43 games with 18 of them at even strength.
Braden Schneider a funny guy
The New York Rangers put out a quick video for Oscar Season where Ryan Strome asked his teammates what their favorite movie is and who would play them in a biopic. When he spoke with Braden Schneider, he called himself a “funny guy” and would like to see comedic actor Rob Schneider play him in a movie.
Defenseman Jacob Trouba was asked about the youngster yesterday and had this to say.
“He’s been great. He’s also a little quirky on the bench. He’s funny and makes some comments that make you smile,” Trouba said with a smile. “He’s just out there having fun being a kid. It’s refreshing, a good reminder for me when I get into a mood, seeing him puts a smile on my face.”
As to what in particular makes Schneider a barrel of laughs, Trouba replied: “They are just one liners like, ‘Oh! Did you see that?’ and I’m like ‘Yeah, Bread (Panarin) does that every other game’. It’s just stuff like that.”
Schneider, 20, seems to have cemented himself as the third pair RD with five points in 13 games this season.
