Rangers Roundup: Ryan Strome out against Montreal; Greg McKegg recalled; and NHL hits big on ESPN
The New York Rangers announced today that they have recalled forward Greg McKegg from the Wolf Pack. That’s because center Ryan Strome will be unavailable for tomorrow night’s contest against the Montreal Canadiens, due to COVID protocols.
Last night, the team roared back from a 2-0 deficit only to lose in OT 3-2 to the Stars.

New York Rangers will be without Ryan Strome
Strome, 28, has one assist in two games so far this season. His presence in the lineup will be sorely missed as he also averages over 18 minutes per game.
There’s no word yet on who will center the second line but the logical guess would be to have Filip Chytil step up and take his place. Barclay Goodrow could easily slot in as the third line center.
Chytil, 22, has no points in two contests and is only averaging 13:06 per game. One notable area of improvement has been his face-off percentage which is 60%.
NHL on ESPN does great numbers
An average of 884,000 viewers tuned in to ESPN to watch the NHL’s opening-night games, making it the highest-viewed doubleheader in NHL history, Sports Business Journal reported.
The games were the first aired on ESPN since 2004.
The Tuesday night openers also included the inaugural game of the expansion Seattle Kraken, who played the Vegas Golden Knights.
The first game featured the two-time champion Tampa Bay Lightning taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins, which averaged 984,000 viewers, tops for an opening-night game on ESPN since 2001-02.
