Rangers Roundup: Shesterkin’s status, Keith Kinkaid up, Huska and Barron sent down
The New York Rangers number one goalie Igor Shesterkin has yet to skate with the team per head coach Gerard Gallant. Although he is eligible to be taken off IR for tomorrow’s contest against the Buffalo Sabres that seems unlikely.
Today, the team recalled Keith Kinkaid from the Wolf Pack.
Rangers transactions
Keith Kinkaid was unavailable to be called up initially due to COVID protocols that impacted the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The 32 year-old backup is now with the Rangers as Adam Huska was sent down along with Morgan Barron on Thursday.
Kinkaid was 3-2-1 in 9 appearances last season with Shesterkin went down with injury. His GAA was 2.59 with a SV% of .898. In his NHL career he’s 68-58-21 with a 2.93 GAA and a respectable .905 SV%.
As for Shesterkin, until he’s skating with the team at practice it is unlikely he will be getting into game action.
Shesterkin had to be helped off the ice at 5:08 of the third period of a 1-0 win over the San Jose Sharks on December 3rd. He appeared to be dealing with a right leg injury after making a save and diving on the rebound during a scrum in front of the net.
Alexandar Georgiev is expected to start against the Sabres on Friday.
