Report: New York Rangers and Barclay Goodrow nearing 6 year deal
As expected and first reported by David Pagnotta and Chris Johnston, the New York Rangers are making progress on a contract for Barclay Goodrow. Coming out just now, Frank Seravalli states that once the moratorium is lifted, a 6 year-deal in the range of $3.6 million will be announced.
Rangers get their man in Goodrow
Barclay Goodrow is the type of glue guy the Rangers said they wanted to go after. He’s a big; strong player at 6-2, 215 lbs. He can skate and produce on the bottom six with 20 points in 55 games this past season. He is also considered one of the best penalty killers in the game and is solid in the face-off circle.
The Bolts used Goodrow as a center this year, but he can also play wing. He took 324 draws in total last season. 172 of them were in the DZ winning 87 of them. His face-off winning percentage was 50%went coming out on top 162 times.
Coming off back-to-back Stanley Cup championships is a plus, which allows him to provide valuable leadership as well.
During this last playoff run he registered 6 points in 18 games. He also notched 68 hits and 13 blocks while playing with a broken hand. His acquisition is more than welcome and the expectation around the organization is that they will get him signed before July 28th.
