Who is Greg Brown? Get to know the Rangers rumored assistant coach
Reports have surfaced that Greg Brown will leave BC to join David Quinn’s coaching staff this season.
According to multiple sources, associate head coach Greg Brown is leaving Boston College to join David Quinn’s New York Rangers staff. Have to assume Brendan Buckley or Mark Dennehy will be the most likely replacements at BC.

Who is Greg Brown?
Greg Brown had a brief NHL career of 94 games for the Sabres, Penguins, and Jets between 1990 and 1995. The defenseman started coaching at BC soon after retiring in 2004. He has been an assistant/associate coach for 14 years and focused on the defense and special teams.
Intimate Connections
Brown is very familiar with both Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes whom he helped coach during their entire BC careers. In addition, he coached both Brady Skjei and prospect, Ryan Lindgren for team USA.
Finally, he was a teammate of David Quinn’s on the 86 U.S. World Junior team and played with Brian Leetch and Mike Richter during his playing career.
Interesting Choice
If this report is accurate it is interesting because Lindy Ruff who coached the defense is also on the staff. Will Ruff be on the bench coaching the forwards or act as the eye in the sky coach? This is the big question from a role perspective. Should Ruff not be on the bench, another coach will definitely be added to the staff. That could be Joe Sacco, who hired Quinn as his assistant in Colorado.
Another small cause for concern is that this Rangers defense group is green and bringing in a rookie assistant may not be the best choice. The Blueshirts continue to avoid NHL retreads as they try and take their game into hockey’s new age.
