New York Rangers acquire defenseman Justin Braun from Flyers
The New York Rangers have acquired Justin Braun from the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2023 third round pick. No salary retained.
This is a bit of a surprising move since he is a right-handed shot, which will lead to speculation on whether or not the Rangers will continue to keep outstanding rookie Braden Schneider in the lineup.
New York Rangers acquire Justin Braun
Braun, 35, has 16 points in 61 games and is a pending UFA. He is 6-2, 203 pounds which he uses well. He’s averaging 20:12 TOI for the Flyers this season.
Analysis:
There’s a chance that Braun could also play on his off-side with Schneider. If for some reason he pushes the rookie out of the lineup, it’s a cause for concern.
Schneider seemed a little overwhelmed at times in recent games, and it’s possible both Chris Drury and Gerard Gallant may not be comfortable with his inexperience come playoff time.
As for Braun, he’s a good shot blocker that has the ability to make an offensive play. He also has solid playoff experience having gone to the Stanley Cup Final with the San Jose Sharks back in 2015-16.
