Things always seem to pick up in the trade rumor mill starting in December. Recently, prominent outlets posted trade bait lists.

Not surprisingly, disgruntled Rangers’ prospect Vitali Kravtsov made it on all of them. Another name that isn’t a shock – goaltender Alexandar Georgiev.

Let’s dive in a little further.

Rangers’ Kravtsov and Georgiev on trade lists

In reviewing TSN’s list, the absence of Vladimir Tarasenko, who has not rescinded his trade request from the summer, was most interesting. Regardless, Kravtsov debuts on the most prestigious of trade lists at #7.

  1. Ben Chariot, D (MTL)
  2. Anton Khudobin, G (DAL)
  3. Jake DeBrusk, F (BOS)
  4. Mark Giordano, D (SEA)
  5. Tomas Hertl, F (SJS)
  6. Nick Leddy, D (DET)
  7. Vitali Kravtsov, F (NYR)
  8. Kevin Fiala , F (MIN)
  9. Phil Kessel, F (ARI)
  10. Evander Kane, F (SJS)

Jeff Marek of Sportsnet put together a list of 25 (in no particular order) where he also names Kravtsov and Alexandar Georgiev.

He requested a trade early this season after refusing an assignment to AHL Hartford, and GM Chris Drury has made it clear he wants something of quality in return and won’t budge until he gets it,” Marek writes of Kravtsov. “This is still an interesting story to follow.”

His name has been out there for a while now with the emergence of Igor Shesterkin in the nets for the Rangers,” Marek notes of Georgiev.

Finally, Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff drew up a list of 15 players with Kravtsov in at 5.

The No. 9 overall pick from the 2018 NHL Draft has been on loan with KHL Chelyabinsk after refusing an assignment to the AHL in October… New agent Dan Milstein has permission to find a new home for Kravtsov, but it hasn’t been easy. We’re told Ottawa and Montreal were among the teams interested. Now that Jeff Gorton, the man who drafted Kravtsov, is in control in Montreal – could a reunion be in order? The Canadiens have three third-round picks, or perhaps an NHL roster player who might help New York’s middle six with Sammy Blais out.

Both Kravtsov and Georgiev likely to be dealt this season

Kravtsov, 21, is playing really well for Traktor in the KHL. In 13 games, he’s picked up 9 points.

He was selected by the Rangers in the 2018 Draft, 9th overall. His situation and fallout with the organization is well documented. Chris Drury will not rush a trade, but he is expected to be moved at some point this season or no later than the 2022 NHL Draft.

Georgiev,25, has gotten on a roll with the Rangers lately. Since becoming the starter, he is 3-0 with a 1.54 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage.

One thing is for certain, Chris Drury is in no rush to trade Georgiev at this time. I doubt he would even move him this season unless a suitable backup or upgrade was available at the deadline. With the Rangers holding his rights, a draft day deal makes more sense.
