There isn’t much in the way of news in Rangerstown this weekend. Twenty NHL players filed for salary arbitration, among them Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello and Derick Brassard. This is pretty much standard operating procedures and all parties are continuing negotiations.

John Moore, who is also a restricted free agent is not eligible for salary arbitration. Per cap geek:

ENTRY-LEVEL SIGNING AGE

A player’s entry-level signing age — used for determining length of the contract and slide eligibility — is calculated on Sept. 15 of the calendar year the contract was signed, per Section 9.2 of the CBA. However, per Section 9.1 (d) (i) of the CBA, players turning 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the calendar year the contract was signed are an exception to the rule. Such players are deemed to be 20 years of age rather than 19.

Per Larry Brook’s he is expected to sign a 2 year bridge deal for about 850K a season.

Dany Heatley Watch

There has been a fair amount of discussion on social media about Dany Heatley joining the Rangers. We at FTHN, like the idea. Read our article on Heatley here.

However, there really isn’t much buzz anywhere else. Spector’s Hockey believes he’s be lucky to land with an NHL club. Then again if you read any of those “insider” twitter accounts, he will be signing today and has 3 or 4 teams interested in him.

Another player that may be interesting on a 1 year cheap deal…Daniel Alfredsson. Last season with fellow Swede Henrik Lundqvist? Interesting.

*Note: Alfredsson has said it’s the Wings or retire.

Poor Michael Del Zotto

Larry Brooks wrote a harsh article on Del Zotto in the NY Post. In it he writes:

This can’t be about the dotted line for Del Zotto — not now. For the bottom line is that at the age of 24, Del Zotto is a reclamation project. It is impossible to believe there aren’t needy teams out there that wouldn’t take a flier on him, but at their price, not his; their terms, not his.

This is a summer in which Del Zotto should spend his time surrounded by, and looking at, mirrors. The alarm has sounded.

There has been so much speculation of his hard-partying wise that one questions his level of commitment. There is no doubting his talent, but his heart for the game is full of it.
