Trade Alert: NYR Send Dorsett to Vancouver for 3rd Round Pick
Derek Dorset is now a member of the Vancouver Canucks in what may the first of several moves by the NY Rangers today.Â
The move was made out of necessity as the Cap has now been announced at $69 MILLION, which was 2 million below what most teams were expecting.
VAN trades 3rd round pick acquired in Kesler deal to NYR for Derek Dorsett. So add Dorsett to VAN’s return on Kesler.

The move was a fiscal one more than anything else for the Blueshirts.
Dorsett’s cap hit is $1.63 million for next year, so that’s what #Rangers save by trading him. They now have $44.9M tied up in ten players. — Seth Rothman (@RothmanHockey) June 27, 2014
While some speculate this meant the return of Daniel Carcillo to the Rangers, I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion so quickly. NY must look at cheaper options on their 3rd and 4th lines. This could be the beginning of a youth infusion to the lineup.
Fast, Miller, Lindberg, Kristo, Haggerty et al have chance to make #Rangers out of camp, but long way from adding them to cap calculations.
