Trouba arbitration hearing set, what’s the latest
Salary Arbitration is never a pleasant process, that’s if it makes it to the hearing. When it does, it leaves a really bad taste in the player’s mouth because the team has to argue why you aren’t worth what you are asking for in order to win the case. That is one reason why team’s like to settle before it.
Jacob Trouba officially has his date set for July 25th and as Larry Brooks mentioned in his tweet, it is unlikely to ever reach that point.
The latest reports say that Trouba’s agent and Jeff Gorton are making progress on a new contract. His new deal with the Rangers is expected to land at 7 years with an AAV around 7.5M and a full no trade clause.
Once the Rangers and Trouba settle, Gorton will leverage the second buy out window. Per the CBA, within 48 hours of settlement or award, a team can exercise a buy out. Which in this case and per several sources, will be Brendan Smith. That will give the Rangers almost $3.4M in additional cap space to help sign all their remaining RFA’s and Kaapo Kakko to his ELC.
