NHL analysts say Igor Shesterkin “primed” to excel with New York Rangers, latest podcast news, and more

Alexis Lafreniere was the focus of NHL analysts yesterday, but the focus shifts towards the net and Igor Shesterkin. The thought process centers around his age, at 24 heading to 25 Shesterkin is heading into the prime years for goaltenders.

Igor Shesterkin “primed to do well in New York”

“He’s going to turn 25 at the end of the month,” they said on NHL Tonight. “You talk about goaltenders coming into their own, usually it’s around 25. Binnington won a Cup at 25. Helleybuck is around that age. He’s primed to do well in New York.”

Last season, Shesterkin basically helped propel the Rangers into playoff contention with stellar net-minding. He did so in impressive fashion earning a 7 game winning streak that included victories against Toronto, Winnipeg, and Carolina. He also faced over 40 shots in 5 of his 12 starts, winning every single contest.
