NYR Trade Deadline Meter Updated 1/31/20

As the Rangers get set to take on the Detroit Red Wings, we close out the month with the latest NYR Trade Deadline Meter. Once again, based on the latest information from around the league and what I’ve been able to learn, the meter represents the likelihood of a player being traded by the deadline on February 24th.

The initial meter was released last week and the latest now has red up or down indicators on certain players based on new information. Let’s break it down.

Latest News

While there is no change in the status of Chris Kreider the latest information has at least 8 teams interested in him and acknowledgement that the Penguins inquired and were told at that time he wasn’t available. However, both sides haven’t even discussed a new contract which if past is prologue didn’t bode well for other UFA’s. The Rangers will not be able to turn down the haul they will get for Kreider which in this market could be better than what they got for Hayes.

If you noticed next to the meters are red up or down arrows which indicates movement from the last time the meter was published. Alexander Georgiev, Lias Andersson, and Brendan Smith all went down a notch. With Georgiev, the Rangers are serious about getting a great package for him and outside of SJ that’s not there yet.

Next up is Lias Andersson who moves down after being loaned to the SHL. It sounds like in order to build value he needs to play and likely be moved at the draft. Jesper Fast is only up because of his UFA status and lack of contract talks. Brendan Smith drops down because there is little interest at the moment.
