NYR Trade Deadline Meter Updated 2/8/20 ICYMI
As the Rangers get prepare to complete a 4 game home stand against the Kings on Sunday, we take a look at the trade landscape in Rangerstown with the latest NYR Trade Deadline Meter. Once again, based on the latest information from around the league and what I’ve been able to learn, the meter represents the likelihood of a player being traded by the deadline on February 24th.
The initial meter was released last month, I’ve updated it with red up or down indicators on certain players based on new information. Let’s break it down.
Posted earlier today.
Big news came out this week that Chris Kreider and his agent will meet to discuss contract demands. As I relayed earlier after speaking with a team source, this is just the first step in a process and they’ll see where it goes. My expectation is he is still traded at the deadline but if Kreider will take a huge discount in years from 7 to 4 then it could happen. That’s why I have moved Kreider down a notch this week.
The Toronto Maple Leafs decided the price for Alexandar Georgiev was too steep. Rumors say the Rangers are looking for a top 9 forward that can play in the NHL now. With that said, Georgiev is still the top 2 player likely to be traded even though there’s no movement up or down because of the Leafs trade for Jack Campbell. Keep your eyes out now for San Jose, Carolina, and New Jersey to come for him hard.
If you noticed there’s been some changes to the meter. Andersson is moving down and Henrik Lundqvist has appeared. The interest in Andersson is very low and the Rangers are likely to let him play out the year in the SHL and move him at the draft. As for Hank, he’s been added because I have to give some credence to Larry Brooks incessant writing on the topic. Henrik takes the place of Tony DeAngelo who told Lohud that he’s pretty confident he will be here and my brief chat with the Rangers team source indicates the same.
Finally, and reluctantly I have moved Pavel Buchnevich into the top five. Once again, I don’t think the Rangers will move him but his name keeps being mentioned so that has to be reflected in the latest meter.
