Projecting the Rangers finish and draft lottery chances
Now that the Rangers are officially eliminated from the playoffs, the focus shifts to where they will finish and wind up selecting in the 2019 draft. According to the wonderful site, Tankathon the Rangers currently hold 6th place in the lottery.
Projected Finish and Lottery Odds
The Rangers are projected to most likely finish 7th in the lottery with a better chance of landing 8th than moving up one to 6th. While the Rangers have 8 games remaining on the schedule, the Ducks who currently are projected to finish 5th, have one more point but only 5 games left.
Another concern is Buffalo who has the same amount of points and games as the Rangers. Vancouver and Edmonton have 3 more points than NY but also have fewer games remaining.
The Schedule
New York has 8 games left (Pit, @Bos, STL, @Phi, @NJ, OTT, CBJ, @Pit) with 4 on the road and 5 against playoff teams. After beating Toronto in OT and their penchant for getting at least a point this season, it is easy to see the Rangers picking up at least 6-8 points in these final games.
My prediction is that the Rangers will actually drop down in the lottery and select 7th or 8th if they fail to win it.
