Prospect Watch: K’Andre Miller opens NCAA season

University of Wisconsin

The Rangers have prospects scattered all over the globe. One of, if not their top prospect, currently resides in Madison, Wisconsin playing for the Badgers. K’Andre Miller, the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, and his team opened the season up this weekend with a pair of games. Friday night against Boston College, followed by a game Saturday night against Merrimack.

Friday 10/11 AT Boston College:

The Badgers lost their opening tilt against the high powered Eagles by a score of 5-3. There was a ton of fire power on the ice for both sides including a plethora of first round picks including K’Andre Miller (Rangers), Cole Caufield (Canadians), and Alex Turcotte (Kings) for Wisconsin, and Matt Boldy (Wild), Spencer Knight (Panthers), and Alex Newhook (Avalanche) for Boston College.

The Badgers did not play their best game defensively allowing BC to get too many chances. Miller was held in check with 0 points, and was a -2. Turcotte finished with an assist, and the star of the show for Wisconsin was Cole Caufield. Caufield, who was a very polarized prospect heading into the draft, finished with 2 goals in the loss to BC. While he was said by many to be the best pure goal scorer in the draft, many deemed him “too short” causing him to slide to pick 15, where he was selected by the Canadians.

Saturday 10/12 AT Merrimack:

After a tough loss Friday night against the high-powered Eagles, Wisconsin took the ice against Merrimack. The Badgers came back with a vengeance Saturday night with an 11-5 rout of Merrimack. Wisconsin forced Merrimack into using three goaltenders, and were very pleased with their win. Alex Turcotte finished with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist), Goal (yes, I know his name is Cole) Caufield finished with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist), and K’Andre Miller finished with 2 points (2 goals). The Badgers were clicking on all cylinders, as they lit the lamp 11 times against Merrimack Saturday night. After a not so great start for the Badgers, and Miller in particular Friday night, it was nice to see both Wisconsin and Miller get a win Saturday night.

Only two games into the Badgers season, and Cole Caufield is silencing all of the haters. He has 5 points (4 goals, 1 assist), and is showing the goal scoring touch that everyone knew he had. The Badgers are back in action this weekend against the UMD (University of Minnesota Duluth) Bulldogs.
