Rangers Roundup: Game times released, and Alexis Lafreniere impresses at day two of training camp
The NHL has released game start times for all teams. The Rangers will start on January 14th against the Islanders at 7 PM ET.

NYR Training Camp Day Two Highlights
The Rangers conducted two group skates and held a scrimmage that finished 1-1. Jack Johnson and Phil Di Giuseppe were the goal scorers. Other tidbits of note:
- Tarmo Reunanen played the right side today
- Anthony Bitetto played the right side
- Mika Zibanejad is still out, possible update tomorrow
- Keith Kinkaid and Justin Richards also remain out
Alexis Lafreniere has arrived
Alexis Lafreniere has his first official practice with the Rangers and was as excited as you’d expect.
“There’s a little bit of nerves, playing with these guys, but I think I’ll get used to it,” Alexis Lafreniere said via Zoom today. The first overall pick also talked about getting used to the speed of the game and then going from there.
Chris Kreider impressed with Lafreniere
One of the leaders of the team spoke extremely highly of Lafreniere. Chris Kreider extolled his praise of the rookie’s skill but most importantly his maturity. (Starts at 1:00 minute mark in video below)
The Rangers longest tenured player has been practicing with Lafreniere prior to camp opening and said, “his skill is very, very evident. He’s got the thing on a string, sees the ice incredibly well, head’s up.”
“The one thing that really struck me from the past few weeks is he’s not only a mature kid, he carries himself with that level of maturity,” Kreider said.
Kreider who is a fitness freak and one of the best conditioned athletes in the NHL was also impressed with Lafreniere’s physical presence. “He’s a lot thicker than a normal 18 or 19 year old kid. Very strong on his skates and he competes. He’s a dog on the puck. He’s hyper competitive and wants to win.”
