Rangers Roundup: Kaapo Kakko’s busy week heading into the NHL draft

With just days to go until the NHL Entry Draft, the consensus no 2 pick, Kaapo Kakko, is in the middle of one of the busiest weeks of his career. Having said goodbye to his teammates, the coaching staff and the fans in Turku, the 18-year old embarks on the next adventure of his career. Kakko will fly to Vancouver today together with his father (Petri), mother (Sari) and little brother (Konsta) where he will have a busy schedule.

Wednesday:

On Wednesday, Kakko is undergoing a medical check in the morning and will meet the Rangers in the afternoon for an interview. Kakko skipped the combine due to commitments with the national team after winning gold at the World Championship in Slovakia and he has been interviewed by the New Jersey Devils in Finland earlier this month. Wednesday’s interview gives the Rangers a chance to familiarize themselves with Kakko and ask him everything they want to know. I fully expect the Rangers organization to release some video footage of this interview.

Thursday:

Thursday morning, Kakko is participating in a media event where he and other prospects will be interviewed by TSN, NBC and other TV stations. Following that, the prospects will engage in a fan event, followed by a dinner at the Octagon Agency office organized by the league.

Friday

Friday morning, Kakko will hit the gym for some final work outs before the NHL camera crew follows the Finn around for the remainder of the day. The draft starts at 5 PM, and the moment Kakko is selected (expected at no 2 by the Rangers), he will walk onto the stage, put on the jersey and continues backstage for interviews, the signing of memorabilia.

All in all, it will be an exciting week for the youngster.
