Rangers Roundup: Number change, RFA and prospect updates

AP

The latest buzz on the Rangers.

Number 24 available

The Rangers showed up for an informal skate today and Boo Nieves was sporting the #15. According to Larry Brooks, he requested the change. Now you have to ask yourself is it for Kaapo Kakko or Lias Andersson. Just kidding, Kakko should be taking that number when camp starts since merchandise has already been sold with 24 on it.

RFA’s skate with team

Training camp has not opened making today’s skate optional. Both Brendan Lemieux and Tony DeAngelo were on ice with the guys but that shouldn’t be read into as an indication a deal is imminent.

I have been stating for awhile now that if unsigned we should not expect to see either report to camp on Thursday.

Update:

Henriksson back to Sweden

Karl Henriksson impressed at Traverse City collecting 5 points in 4 games. As we previously noted back on August 26th, Henriksson’s inclusion as an unsigned prospect was eyebrow raising. It led our own Steven Voogel to speculate a potential ELC to keep him in North America for the foreseeable future. Now that the tournament is over the 18 year old will be heading back to Frölunda as was previously agreed to by Fredrik Sjostrom and the Rangers.

Many of you will remember Sjostrom since he played 97 games for the Rangers between 2007-2009. Currently, he is the general manager of Frölunda and the relationship between him and the Rangers is still very good. As per a source, “Sjostrom was very good in allowing [Henriksson] to come and gain the experience [with the club at Traverse City]”.
