Rangers Roundup: Prospect update, Joel squashes Henrik rumor, and more

The Rangers are really enjoying the development of 2019 draft pick, Karl Henriksson. The 19 year-old potted his first point of the SHL season yesterday. Also coming out of the game was an interesting quote from Joel Lundqvist, Henrik’s twin.

Karl Henriksson notched an assist in win

Although Karl is on the small side, he’s a gamer and is playing on one of Frolunda’s top lines as a teenager. His assist came on Joel Lundqvist’s empty-netter which says a lot about where he is at in his development. Playing clutch minutes with the game on the line.

“To get him where we did in the draft was very exciting,” Chris Drury recently said. “He’s on the right path to be a full-time center.” That’s great news considering the Rangers are thin at center in their prospect pool.

Joel Lundqvist ends some speculation on Henrik

Yesterday, after the game Joel Lundqvist decided it was time to end anymore questions coming his way. While the rumor of Lundqvist retiring and playing for Frolunda ended here, it still perpetuates in Sweden.

“No. That door is closed. I can say that. It’s not going to happen,” Joel responded to a question of if Henrik will play for Frolunda after being bought out.

“There is a lot that comes into play in such a decision,” Joel continued. “But I get that question constantly and just to kill speculation and other things, that’s not going to be the case.”

Marc Staal trade was a surprise?

It’s been almost two days and there hasn’t been much word out of Marc Staal’s camp since the trade. There’s some speculation that this came about very quickly and was a bit of a shock and surprise for Marc. I’ve reached out to find out more.

Editor’s note: I’ve seen some comments online and I want to make it clear and stress the word “speculation”. I am not implying the Rangers didn’t talk to Staal before the deal. The buzz is that it came about quickly and was not necessarily something he was expecting.
