Rangers Roundup: Quinn and Gorton speak to lineup decisions

As expected both HC David Quinn and GM Jeff Gorton have weighed in on the decisions to send down both Filip Chytil and Vitali Kravtsov.

On Chytil

David Quinn spoke to the media on Chytil and stated that they want him to play center and to work on his game in the AHL. Instead of getting limited minutes here, it would be best for him to get top line time at both even strength and on the PP. The Rangers want him to be a center on this team going forward.

On Kravtsov

Apparently the team doesn’t feel Kravtsov was ready to play 3rd line wing. I find that hard to believe, but due to the limited number of games to start the year it doesn’t hurt Kravtsov to play top line minutes in the AHL to start the season. I will raise a red flag if he isn’t called up soon, especially if he is putting up points (as I expect him to) for Hartford.

Just spoke to Gorton, and as expected, he said reason for sending Chytil & Kravtsov down was because they didn’t make the top 9. Didn’t want them playing limited minutes here. Feels they’ll benefit from big minutes in Hartford, and mentioned wanting Chytil to work at center. #NYR

On Lias:

When asked if any players on the bubble stepped up at the end of training camp to solidify their spot, Gorton didn’t hesitate.

“Lias really helped himself in the last few games to himself over the top,” he said. #NYR

Gorton also said Ryan Lindgren is “really close,” and likely will be back sooner than later.

On Kreider contract extension:

Gorton, by the way, said he hasn't talked to Chris Kreider or his agent about a contract extension. Doesn't sound like he intends to, either. At least not anytime soon.
